Non-insect Problems

Maintaining healthy turf is the best way to avoid damage from insects. The presence of potential turf pests does not in any way indicate control measures need to be undertaken. Appropriate fertilization, irrigation and mowing practices for the turf being managed are critical to maintaining turf in optimum condition. When turf is stressed is when insect problems may occur. Disease, fertilization, irrigation, insect damage and improper herbicide applications can all mimic each other. It is often very difficult to determine what really caused any turf damage.

Insect damage is generally patchy and irregular.
